In 2014, the Utah Rare Executive Committee met in the first Recursion conference room when they had only 13 employees. Together, we started a coalition for rare disease stakeholders called Utah Rare.

In 2016, Chris and I Co-Chaired Utah Rare. It was during this time spent at the State Capitol and our symposiums where I saw the passion Chris has for advocating for the rare and undiagnosed community. It has been such a blessing to be on this journey with Recursion. From seeing Season Atwater’s photography on the walls, to listening to a young advocate, Ricki Jensen, speak at their engagements. Together, we are building something very special here in Salt Lake City for the rare and undiagnosed community.

As I wrote my speech, I thought about why the NBA plays such a huge part in the lives of our rare families.
It’s an honor to play in the NBA. You have to work hard and be more dedicated to anything in the world to be a success in the NBA. Just as a young boy or young girl picks up a basketball and learns how to dribble and shoot, you learned your skills to succeed and to create treatments for us. When I look around this room, I see the team that Recursion is building. I think of you as our rare disease All-Star team. I just want to say that every time you see the Jazz ball, I hope it remind you how important you are to our rare community. You have dedicated your life to saving our lives. You are our heroes and our idols.

“It’s an honor to receive the award and to cut the ribbon on our new facility on the same day,” said Chris Gibson, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Recursion. “We put a lot of effort into creating a positive, healthy, and creative environment for our team, but I think this award really reflects the sense of purpose and fulfilment that we all get unlocking biology to discover meaningful new therapies for patients in need.”
Drug discovery, reimagined through Artificial Intelligence
We are discovering transformative new treatments by leveraging the speed of automation with the intelligence of computers. It’s drug discovery at unprecedented pace.
Think of it as radical bio-intelligence
We combine artificial intelligence with automation to conduct experimental biology at scale — testing thousands of compounds on hundreds of cellular disease models in parallel. Our embrace of systems biology and our commitment to an unbiased approach are leading to novel discoveries. With every experiment, our system gets smarter.
