It is not easy waiting for test results during the holiday season. And, it is not easy receiving email alerts from “My Chart” regarding abnormal blood work and/or tests without an explanation. Since the doctors were out last week and are playing catch up this week, I went to the Internet to learn what the results meant. It is all very upsetting. I am scared and I have to learn what the results mean online? I know it is not the fault of the doctors. They are allowed to have lives and to spend time with their families. However, it is hard on the patient.
I know I had an abnormal pulmonary function test because the person performing the test told me. I have been waiting for two weeks to find out what it meant. I wrote my doctor and the response was the following: “I cannot interpret these results. That is why I have referred you to pulmonary for further evaluation since it is beyond my expertise to interpret these further.”
I appreciate the candid response but it does not make take my worry away. It only adds to it.
I called to schedule an appointment with the pulmonary department. I cannot get in for five weeks. Five weeks. Really?! So, I guess I have to wait over seven weeks to learn what my abnormal pulmonary function test results mean.
