Harlie Valdez and Ava Szajnuk enjoy a night out together: This past Saturday night was a great night at The National Ability Center’s Barn Party. For Harlie, it was a much needed break from her hospital room. She was able to get another pass out of Primary Children’s for a few hours. For Ava, it was a night to be distracted from her pain. In the summer of 2013, Ava only lived in the hospital for five weeks. We have no idea what it is like to live in a hospital as long as Harlie, Stephanie and Gabe. However, we remember how horrible it was to live within those four walls. When Ava and I are having a fun moment together, we always say, “Much better than a hospital room!”
We were able to share that saying with Harlie on Saturday night. It made her smile. She giggled at Ava, Oskar and Lucy dancing on the floor to the country music. It was a chance for Stephanie, Gabe and I to sit and take a breather together. It was a much needed break for all of us. We are so very proud of Harlie’s progress. I am praying that next year at the Barn Party…Harlie will be dancing on the floor as well.
Much love to Stephanie, Gabe and Harlie…
Gina
