Blog from 2015: Ava’s four cranial surgeries were exactly two years ago this week. In 2013, her first cranial surgery was in June. Three more surgeries followed over the next five weeks. Out of the blue last night, Ava shared something with me that she never shared before.
We are currently on a road trip from Wisconsin to Missouri. We spent the night at a motel in the middle of Iowa. The girls and I were cuddling while trying to find something to watch on television. A commercial came on for a new show starting on TNT called Proof. The commercial explained that they are looking for proof of an afterlife…Heaven.
Ava turned to me and said, “I saw Heaven. I saw a white light during one of my surgeries.”
I didn’t say anything right away. I waited for Lucy to fall asleep. Ava and I cuddled again. I asked her, “What did you mean you saw Heaven?”
Ava replied, “I saw a white light and a blue light. The white light was Heaven and the blue light was you. And, I chose the blue light. I chose you Mommy.”
I asked Ava about it again this morning. I asked her why she never mentioned it before last night. She explained that it just came to her last night. She remembers it vividly now. And, she said, “Why would I choose Heaven. I was only six years old when I had my four cranial surgeries. Why would a six year old want to go to Heaven?”
January 4th, 2019: There is not a day that goes by without counting our blessings that we have Ava here with us today. We are so very thankful and we continue to pray for all of the children fighting for their lives. We continue to pray for all of our angels that are watching over us ever single day. There are no words to express our gratitude to the doctors that saved her life. Thank you all for your continued prayers, love and support.
