Harlie’s update from the ER

Harlie arrived at the hospital this afternoon. She was “shock protocol” for the third time since January. With her high heart rate and high fever, she is too unstable for GI to scope her today. They took her for an  X-ray, which didn’t show anything. The surgeon came down to look at her. He sat her parents, my wife and Gina down to discuss the surgical options. He said that if he would have walked into the room of a healthy child, Harlie would be rushed for surgery immediately. Due to Harlie’s extremely rare situation, the surgeon told us that they need to do everything in their power to prove she needs the surgery. The surgery is extremely high risk. The possibility of losing Harlie during surgery is a fact and we need to weigh the pros and cons. Stephanie asked the surgeon, “So, either way, Harlie is in real danger?”

The surgeon replied, “There is no question about it. Harlie is in REAL danger either way.”

The surgeon was very concerned and very straightforward. This is a very high risk situation.

We are now waiting for a CT scan. It will help the surgeon see what is going on.  They are moving Harlie to the ICU. They will prep her body for surgery as they wait to decide their next steps.

The surgeon stressed that either way of doing surgery or not doing surgery Harlie is in serious danger of losing her life right now.

Please pray for Harlie and our entire family.
