Update by Gabe Valdez: Harlie is having surgery today.
We just heard from Gabe Valdez that it was okay to post an update on Harlie Valdez.
Harlie was in the ICU overnight. The family had a meeting with her entire medical team earlier today. They went through the pros and cons of having the surgery. Due to the fact that she is losing a lot of blood really fast, they have decided to move forward with the GI scope. Even though Harlie is at a very high risk of perforation and every one is worried about putting her under anesthesia, there is not a choice right now. She is really sick and she is still in a lot of pain. In addition to the GI scope, they will also be doing a surgery. They will be putting in a central line (CVC) for nutrition and for her IV. It is more permanent than a PICC line.
Her family is hard to reach right now. Their phones do not work in the ICU or surrounding areas of the hospitals.
