Waiting for test results during the holiday season

It is not easy waiting for test results during the holiday season.  And, it is not easy receiving email alerts from “My Chart” regarding abnormal blood work and/or tests without an explanation. Since the doctors were out last week and are playing catch up this week, I went to the Internet to learn what the results meant. It is all very upsetting. I am scared and I have to learn what the results mean online?  I know it is not the fault of the doctors. They are allowed to have lives and to spend time with their families. However, it is hard on the patient.

I know I had an abnormal pulmonary function test because the person performing the test told me. I have been waiting for two weeks to find out what it meant.  I wrote my doctor and the response was the following:  “I cannot interpret these results. That is why I have referred you to pulmonary for further evaluation since it is beyond my expertise to interpret these further.

I appreciate the candid response but it does not make take my worry away. It only adds to it.

I called to schedule an appointment with the pulmonary department. I cannot get in for five weeks. Five weeks. Really?!   So, I guess I have to wait over seven weeks to learn what my abnormal pulmonary function test results mean.
