Dear RUN families,
Due to the generosity of Brian Villers, Justin’s childhood friend, we were able to afford the $850 application fee to file the 501(c)(3) this past week. This is a huge step forward for all of us.
Brian sent the following letter with his gift:
Dear Gina and Justin,
“Someone once told me: “No problem can withstand the assault of constant thought.” I often find comfort in this phrase. Eventually diagnoses will be made and cures discovered but until then, the journey continues. Let’s hope this is one of the many gifts to the organization yet to come to support an incredible important mission.
Love,
Brian”
I had to take a second when I opened the UPS package. I cried happy tears. I cried lots of happy tears.
Thank you, Brian. We love you.
Gina
***We were incorporated on November 4, 2014. We are able to receive “gifts to the organization” to cover start-up expenses, as funds given to the organization won’t technically be donations (i.e., deductible to the donor) until the organization receives its 501(c)(3) approval in the upcoming months, at which point monies given between the date of incorporation and the date of approval will *become* tax deductible to the donor, as the IRS retroactively awards status back to the date of incorporation.
